Every person desires security and productivity in their work. We want our jobs to last and carry us through to retirement, and we not only want to have a job but we want to know we are good at what we do and thrive at it. Of course, we live in something called the real-world, and things don’t always work out according to our plans. We may end up losing our job, through no fault of our own, or we may begin to feel unfulfilled in our work and bored or disinterested.

If we find ourselves in these types of situations, our first (and very natural instincts) may be to worry, if we lost our job, or become depressed and disillusioned with our lives if we are feeling unsatisfied and disappointed with how things are going. But God’s Word tells us a different story on what we should do and how to act.

His Word tells us to:

  • Acknowledge – we need to acknowledge God and His Word in our lives; become aware of the fact that He is real and that He cares about us and how we live our lives.
  • Observe – we need to read His Word and observe His commands regarding the way He desires us to live. This is how we get to know who He is, what He likes and dislikes, and we become familiar with the way of the Christian walk.
  • Obey – obedience is what ties everything together and is a crucial piece that’s fundamental to our success in life. If we acknowledge God, observe His commands but not obey Him or His Word, our lives will not be transformed and dissatisfaction, unfulfillment, and weariness will plague our lives. Obedience to God’s commands is the key to blessing, provision and prosperity.

When we do these things, God promises that He will take care of us, provide for us, and that we will experience peace, contentment, and gratification in our lives. Seek His Kingdom first, and then all these things will be added unto you.

God, sometimes I take my focus off of You, and I begin to feel worried, anxious, or unhappy with how my life is going. I have been looking at things other than You to bring me the security and happiness I seek. I am sorry. Please forgive me. Help turn my eyes back to You and give me the faith and courage to obey Your Word.
