When you sit down to pray, what are most of your prayers about? If you’re anything like me, praying about future events (what I desire to come to pass or things that I want) get a little more attention than anything else. I can create a list of outcomes that I would like to see happen and what I would really like God to do regarding a certain situation. Although asking and waiting in expectation is not wrong to do, we must also put in an effort to pray for others and, more often than not, remove the spotlight from ourselves.

Why not turn the spotlight on The One who really deserves it? When was the last time you thanked God for all the things He has already done for you? When was the last time you sat down and prayed and didn’t ask God for one thing but instead thanked Him for all the blessings He has so graciously bestowed upon you?

Gratitude and praise is what the LORD delights in. Get in the practice of taking the focus off yourself and turn to thank Him for being a good Father. List all the ways that You have noticed His help and what He has done for you, and then thank Him for making a way for you and for bringing you this far.

God, I just want to use this moment to thank You for all of the amazing blessings You have bestowed upon me. Your grace allows me to experience happiness and joy. You give the most incredible gifts. Thank You for all that You have done for me.

I Chronicles 16:41 – “…because His grace continues forever.”

I Chronicles 17:16 – “Who am I, Adonai, God, and who is my family, that has caused you to bring me this far?”

Lily or the valley; a beautiful creation of God.
